The Day We Met and Every Day After

Nothing can chill my spine and still my mind

other than the gentle grasp of her hand.

I cannot explain in rhythm or rhyme,

can’t understand by any method of man.

Slit silver eyes above lips smiling wide

she laughs and for a moment life freezes.

In that second I could live my whole life

for I am happy only when she is.

My heart hid in the dark, she came with light

illuminating and mutilating

the cynicism which was my thick hide,

not to change me, but instead to save me.

Nothing else remains, nothing else matters

But the day we met and every day after
